Tea Geography

Global world tea production has raised in 2015 up to 5.306.000 tons..

The main producing countries are China, which has exceeded in 2010 1.400.000 tons, India, Kenya, Sri Lanka, which together represent over 75% of the world production. Although grown mainly in Asia until the end of 1800s, the increasing demand has spread tea cultivation around the world, thus resulting in more than 40 producing countries, including Turkey, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, Korea, Malawi, South Africa, Mozambique, Brazil and Argentina.

Each producing country has its production areas and each one has its unique and peculiar terroir with its set of all environmental factors (soil, climate,local ecosystem) that affect a crop's phenotype, resulting in tea with completely different carachter, aroma, flavour.
